First Take, year two

Once again I’m volunteering on Saturdays with NYABJ’s Fall high school program, instructing students who are interested in journalism. Interesting to know that there are kids who are aiming for this career, they’ve got good ideas and bright eyes. It’s pretty cool, I actually get a thing or two out of helping young people on weekends instead of only serving myself by relaxing, watching football and movies, reading or doing brunch or any of the other things I’d do with my own Saturday. Really. The program meets at Long Island University in Brooklyn for eight weeks and we’re two weeks in.
Some of my fellow pros come from TV and radio or print. I handle much of the online instruction, familiarizing the students with publishing and producing work for the web. I’m redesigning the blog this week to have ready for this year’s crop of kids.
